Freelance Whales
By far the best release of the week is by Freelance Whales. This group from Queens has done an excellent job putting together an album that is truly a joy to listen to, and the cover art rules.

I don’t know for sure if these two albums were actually released today, because it seems the label futureappletree released quite a few records today (at least on iTunes). Either way, these two albums were very intriguing and are highly recommended.
blue and brown books
This self-titled album from blue and brown books has put out a really good album. At times it has a singer/songwriter vibe, while at others you can definitely feel the soul in the jazz that is produced from the Chicago-based group with great harmonies. Well done.

The Oliver Twists
The heart and soul of this group comes from Jamey Cummins. After the end of his former band, The Parish Festival, he had written some songs and brought them to some friends of his that are currently daytrotter.com employees. What ended up happening is The Oliver Twists. While the band does not technically exist and was merely a channel to release this creativity, the songs follow a jazzy piano-pop sound that makes you wish you could see these guys live. Until then, listen away.
